We are a minor hockey association operating in south Edmonton under the umbrella of Hockey Edmonton. KC South offer's hockey opportunities for children of all skill levels.

We have teams in the following categories:

Discovery Program
This program is for brand new skaters, learning to skate with hockey equipment and incorporating hockey skills throughout the season. This program will remain on the weekends with each session being 60 minutes long. Ideally this will be for children born in 2020 (4 years of age), also dependent on skill level.

• (2020 Birth Year) 4-year old's as of December 31
• Discovery is separate and distinct from the Initiation Program; It is for brand new skaters, learning to skate with hockey equipment and incorporating hockey skills throughout the season
• This structured program teaches basic movement and skating skills through development drills from Phase 1 of Hockey Canada's Initiation Program Manual
• Non-competitive fun activities are also incorporated to further develop the skills that were learned
  • Hockey Canada Membership and Insurance coverage
  • Instruction from Certified Lead Instructors (1:10 ratio)
  • TIMBITS Uniforms
  • Group formation of 10-12 players
  • Cross-Ice Hockey setups for efficient use of ice
  • All sessions to be held on prime-time weekend ice slots
  • (20) 1-hour shared ice Skill Development Sessions

Junior Timbits
The Jr. TIMBITS program will consist of a 1-hour practice, once a week, on the weekend. There will be a Lead Instructor on the ice for practices, with several other Support Instructors. The Lead Instructor position will rotate between the on ice instructors.

• (2019 Birth Year) 5-year old's as of December 31
• A child can register into Jr. Timbits even if they have not previously participated in the DISCOVERY program
• This program focuses on the Introduction of Technical Skills (Skating, Puck-handling, Passing, and Shooting) and an Introduction to Individual Tactics. There will be a strong emphasis on Skating Skills.

  • Instruction from Certified Lead Instructors and Support Instructors (1:10 ratio)
  • TIMBITS Uniforms
  • Group formation of 10-12 players
  • Cross-Ice Hockey setups for efficient use of ice

  • (20) 1-hour shared ice Skill Development Sessions

Senior Timbits
The Sr. TIMBITS program is and introduction to hockey program and will be two - 1-hour ice times per week (1 Skill Development Session and 1 Small Area Game Session) to be held on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a Lead Instructor on the ice for practices and game situations, with several Support Instructors. The Lead Instructor position will rotate between the on ice instructors. During the Small Area Game Sessions, there will be a Small Area Game Zone on each end of the rink, with the middle of the ice being used as an Active Rest/Play Zone for drills the kids want to work on, and unstructured Small Area Games.

• (2018 Birth Year) 6-year old's as of December 31
• A child can register into Sr. Timbits even if they have not previously participated in the DISCOVERY or Jr. TIMBITS programs
• This program focuses on the Development of Technical Skills (Skating, Puck-handling, Passing, and Shooting) and an Introduction to Individual Tactics. There will be a strong emphasis on Skating Skills.

U9
U9 hockey involves the formation of tiered teams that play city wide.

• A child can register in U9 even if they have not participated in Discovery, Junior or Senior Timbits.
• For the 2024-25 season those born in 2016 or 2017 may register for the U9 program.
• Tiered teams of 15 to 19 players are formed after an evaluation process that occurs over 3 skates during the month of September.
• Players at this level have a chance to play all positions, including goalie.
• All games to be played on split ice
• Re-tiering of teams happens twice a year to ensure all tiers remain competitive.

U11
U11 hockey continues with the formation of tiered teams that play city wide.  

• A child can register in U11 even if they have not participated in Discovery, Junior / Senior Timbits or U9 hockey.
• For the 2024-25 season those born in 2014 and 2015 may register for the U11 program.
• Tiered teams of 15 to 19 players are formed after an evaluation process that occurs over 3 skates during the month of September.
• Assigned positions and directed development are more of a focus at this level during practices and game play.  Assigned goalies through evaluations are used at this level.
• Re-tiering of teams happens twice a year to ensure all tiers remain competitive.

U13
U13 hockey continues with the formation of tiered teams that play city wide.  

• A child can register in U13 even if they have not participated in Junior / Senior Timbits, U9, or U11 hockey.
• For the 2024-25 season those born in 2012 and 2013 may register for the U13 program.
• Tiered teams of 15 to 19 players are formed after an evaluation process that occurs over 3 skates during the month of September.
• There are regular goalies that have evaluated as goalies on most teams – number of goalies for the particular year permitting.
• Assigned positions, directed development and game play are more of a focus at this level during practices and game play. Assigned goalies through evaluations are used at this level.
• Re-tiering of teams happens twice a year to ensure all tiers remain competitive.

Tiered teams: The purpose of tiering is to have similarly skilled players on each team that are also playing against similarly skilled players from other clubs throughout the Hockey Edmonton program.  This ensures each player can develop with like players and coaches are able to build practice plans for their tiered level.

Tiered games and practices:

• Games will be held throughout the city and surrounding areas.
• Locations of practices vary as do times.
• Games and practices will be held on both weekday evenings and weekends.
• Games will be played with Referees and scores are kept.
• 18 or more games and 18 or more practices (some will be half ice) from September to March.
• Quikcard Minor Hockey Week is a city wide and surrounding area tournament which usually starts at the end of the second week in January. Tiered teams of equal playing level compete with one another in the hopes of being crowned Quikcard Minor Hockey Week champion for their tier.
